Dr. Conrad Murray didn’t know the full extent of Michael Jackson’s medical problems when he signed up to be his personal physician this spring, according to his lawyers. Explaining that Jackson had “very unusual problems,” Murray evidently didn’t know Jackson’s full drug regimen or whether he was an addict. Is this the legal defense that they are building for Murray if he’s officially charged with manslaughter? Do you think it’s an effective defense?

Read on from CNN:

In comments published in the Los Angeles Times and confirmed Thursday by his spokeswoman, attorney Ed Chernoff said his client did not know which drugs Jackson might have been taking or whether he was addicted.

“When he accepted the job, he was not aware of any specific requirements regarding medications that Michael Jackson was taking or any addictions that he was suffering from,” Chernoff told the Times.

In a quote confirmed by his spokesman, Chernoff said that it was only after Murray moved to Los Angeles in May that “he realized that Michael Jackson had some very unusual problems.”

Murray did not conduct drug tests on Jackson and had no way of knowing, other than from Jackson himself, whether he was taking other drugs, Chernoff’s spokeswoman, Miranda Sevcik, told CNN.

A hyberbaric oxygen chamber owned by Michael Jackson has turned up in a storage facility in San Diego, according to reports from today’s Telegraph. The chamber became famous when Jackson used it to heal after a devastating accident on set during a Pepsi commercial in 1984. The creepy picture above, taken in 1986, shows Jackson sleeping in the chamber.

The oxygen chamber, which supposedly promotes healing by accelerating tissue growth, belonged to Jackson as of 1994. Now, though, the expensive piece of machinery is just gathering dust in a warehouse. We guess there’s not really a big market for this sort of thing!

More details at the Telegraph.

A psychiatrist who evaluated Michael Jackson had major concerns about Jackson’s mental and physical health, according to reports from Telegraph today. The psych met with Jackson on two occasions, including one session in June, just two weeks before the singer died.

Apparently, the King of Pop was undergoing considerable strain from his life under the spotlight as well as the grueling training for his planned 50-venue concert tour. According to the paper’s source, Jackson exhibited wild mood swings and candidly admitted an addiction to painkillers. The news we get about Jackson’s health in the months before his death just get grimmer and grimmer.

According to a psychiatrist’s report quoted by The Sun newspaper, the singer’s behaviour was increasingly erratic, with his mood swinging from an “almost manic” excitement about the tour to silence and staring into space.

A source close to the investigation into his death reportedly told the paper that Jackson was “clearly not mentally or physically equipped to cope” with the 50-night performance schedule at the O2 Arena.

“Michael was always adamant the show must go on – to the point where he was obsessed with the idea he would be ‘killed’ if he couldn’t go on stage,” The Sun quoted the source as saying.

“He had been backed into a corner and was falling apart under the strain.”
