The death of Michael Jackson was homicide due to intoxication by anaesthetic, an LA coroner has said.

The singer died in June from cardiac arrest at his home in Los Angeles.

The powerful anaesthetic Propofol and Lorazepam, a sedative, were the “primary drugs responsible for Mr Jackson’s death”, the report said.

Police have interviewed his doctor, Conrad Murray, but he has not been named as a suspect. He has strenuously denied any wrongdoing.

The manner of death has been ruled: Homicide,” it adds. In the US, the crime of homicide includes manslaughter.

A cocktail of drugs – including Midazolam, Diazepam, Lidocaine, Lorazepam and Ephedrine – were detected in his body, the report said.

The full toxicology report remains sealed, at the request of the LA Police Department and the city’s district attorney. Read on…

So Michael death has been confirmed as a homicide. But why isn’t Conrad Murray a suspect? The situation during that fateful afternoon certainly seems suspicious, and the excuses he made for not calling 911 immediately did seem a little flimsy.

Dr. Conrad Murray didn’t know the full extent of Michael Jackson’s medical problems when he signed up to be his personal physician this spring, according to his lawyers. Explaining that Jackson had “very unusual problems,” Murray evidently didn’t know Jackson’s full drug regimen or whether he was an addict. Is this the legal defense that they are building for Murray if he’s officially charged with manslaughter? Do you think it’s an effective defense?

Read on from CNN:

In comments published in the Los Angeles Times and confirmed Thursday by his spokeswoman, attorney Ed Chernoff said his client did not know which drugs Jackson might have been taking or whether he was addicted.

“When he accepted the job, he was not aware of any specific requirements regarding medications that Michael Jackson was taking or any addictions that he was suffering from,” Chernoff told the Times.

In a quote confirmed by his spokesman, Chernoff said that it was only after Murray moved to Los Angeles in May that “he realized that Michael Jackson had some very unusual problems.”

Murray did not conduct drug tests on Jackson and had no way of knowing, other than from Jackson himself, whether he was taking other drugs, Chernoff’s spokeswoman, Miranda Sevcik, told CNN.

In a raid on a Las Vegas pharmacy earlier this week, investigators found documentation that proves that Murray, Jackson’s personal physician, purchased the anesthetic Propofol there, which he later administered to the King of Pop. They’re building a paper trail that might bury Murray on those manslaughter charges that police are reportedly issuing to him.

From the article:

According to the search warrant (now posted on TMZ) for the Las Vegas pharmacy raided on Tuesday, authorities were looking for credit card receipts and other documents related to drugs purchased by Murray on May 12, specifically mentioning a type of propofol that was found in Jackson’s home.

A law enforcement official confirmed to The Associated Press that officials removed evidence on Tuesday that proved Murray bought the propofol from Las Vegas’ Applied Pharmacy Services and that he administered the drugs from that purchase to Jackson in the hours before his death.

Wow- what a rough way to start a morning! That’s an excerpt from an LA Times blog piece, which goes on to describe how Dr. Conrad Murray frequently administered the King of Pop with the dangerous anesthetic Propofol. Since landing a $150,000/month job as Jackson’s personal physician this fall, Murray helped Jackson acquire the drug, which the singer used as a sleep aid. Whatever happened to trying a warm glass of milk? This stuff is dangerous- it’s used to prep patients for surgery.

The investigation into Jackson’s death is still ongoing, so this information comes from unnamed sources. Hopefully they’ll tie up all the loose ends soon and make sure that justice is served.

The article continues:

Dr. Conrad Murray, identified in court records as a suspect in a police manslaughter investigation, legally acquired the operating room drug, propofol, from a Las Vegas pharmacy and gave it to Jackson as treatment for insomnia, said the sources, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because the investigation is ongoing.

In an interview with Los Angeles police detectives two days after Jackson’s death, Murray acknowledged obtaining and administering the medication, the sources said. He reportedly told police that the singer had returned to his rented Holmby Hills mansion in the early hours of June 25 exhausted from a lengthy concert rehearsal but was unable to sleep.

Associated Press reports that Dr. Conrad Murray administered several sedatives to Michael Jackson in addition to Propofol on the day he died, according to an official close to the death investigation.

AP Photo/Houston Chronicle, File

The sedatives, commonly given to patients before surgery, could be lethal if administered improperly or combined in risky doses with other drugs. Dr. Murray, who is not an anesthesiologist, insists that his treatment of the Thriller singer was within normal medical practices.

The late Jackson’s tox screen has yet to be released, so investigators can’t pin down Dr. Murray, though they reportedly believe that Jackson’s untimely death is linked to the propofol that the doctor gave Jackson.

More here:

Hours before Michael Jackson’s death, his doctor administered multiple sedatives along with a powerful anesthetic the pop star used to sleep, according to a law enforcement official. It’s a safe combination if done properly; potentially lethal if not.The official said the type of sedatives Dr. Conrad Murray gave Jackson were benzodiazepines, often used to calm patients before surgery. Murray told investigators the doses were within normal medical guidelines, said the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

Even at acceptable levels, benzodiazepines can intensify how the anesthetic propofol depresses breathing, so strict monitoring and careful dosing is required. The balance can be tricky, a slip-up disastrous.

Murray, who administered the drugs to Jackson in a room at the pop star’s rented mansion, told investigators Jackson stopped breathing the morning of June 25 and he was unable to revive him. The doctor is the central figure in what police term a manslaughter investigation, but authorities have not classified him a suspect.

The AP reports that LA police described Michael Jackson as an “addict” during the ongoing investigation into his death. This description comes from the search warrant executed on the home and office of cardiologist Conrad Murray, the doctor wrapped up in possible manslaughter charges in the Jackson death. Police continue to search for misuse of drugs and prescriptions involving the dangerous drug propofol.

To top it off, Murray’s not the only doctor tied to the Jackson investigation. The warrant also indicates that police want to communicate with seven different medical professionals about Jackson’s health. Was Jackson abusing the system by getting multiple prescriptions from multiple doctors? The police continue to dig for more information.

Authorities investigating Michael Jackson’s death alluded to the singer as an “addict” and were seeking evidence related to the powerful anesthetic propofol, according to search warrants released Thursday. The documents show investigators have cause to believe several California Business and Professions codes had been broken, including “excessive prescribing,” a misdemeanor punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to 180 days.

Los Angeles police and federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents spent much of Tuesday at the Las Vegas home and business of Jackson’s personal doctor, Conrad Murray, who is the focus of a manslaughter investigation. The raids sought evidence supporting that charge, as well as code violations, including “prescribing to an addict” and “unprofessional conduct.”

Dr. Conrad Murray seems like a magnet for bad publicity. While under investigation for possible manslaughter charges, authorities have discovered that the doctor owes hundreds of thousands of dollars for multiple debts. He owes money for child support, settlements against his medical practice, and student loans, just to name a few.

Michael Jackson hired the doctor in May, at a reported $150,000 a month, in order to monitor the pop star’s health during the grueling 50-stop concert series that was planned this summer. We guess he was hoping the big, fat paychecks would help him clear out his debts . But with Jackson gone, what’s Conrad gonna do now?

From MSNBC:

Dr. Conrad Murray needed a big payday when he became Michael Jackson’s personal physician last spring. The Las Vegas cardiologist owed at least $780,000 for settlements against his business, outstanding mortgage payments on his house, delinquent student loans, child support and credit cards. And that doesn’t include the $68,000 the distributor of an energy drink says Murray, a one-time business associate, owes for skipping out on payments.

Court records chronicling Murray’s woes in Las Vegas, where authorities searched his home this week as part of their manslaughter investigation into Jackson’s death, help explain why — beyond basking in a celebrity’s aura — Murray might have jumped at the $150,000-a-month Jackson’s promoter was prepared to pay him to keep the star healthy through a series of concerts in London.

This week, police raided the home of Dr. Conrad Murray, fueling suspicions that there were pending criminal charges against the unlucky doctor. Today, the LA Times got a copy of the search warrant, offering us clues into what the authorities were searching for in the doctor’s Las Vegas home and office. Not surprisingly, they were looking for Propofol, that dangerous anesthetic that Michael Jackson was seemingly addicted to. Investigators spent over 8 hours digging up dirt on the doctor, and took a lot of electronic devices that may have documents related to Jackson’s treatment.

The investigators who spent more than eight hours combing through Murray’s properties were targeting an array of documents related to the treatment of Jackson, including “records, shipping orders, distribution lists, use records relating to the purchase transfer, receiving, ordering, delivery and storage of propofol,” read the warrant signed by a Nevada District Court judge.

At Murray’s home, searchers took an iPhone, copies of information from another mobile phone and a BlackBerry, and a copy of a personal computer hard drive, according to an inventory. No items were taken from the storage unit, investigators wrote. The warrants also indicated investigators are considering a wider range of charges against Murray than the manslaughter count they referred to in documents filed last week in a search of the doctor’s Houston properties.

A detective wrote that he and colleagues were looking for evidence “demonstrating the crimes” that included excessive prescribing, prescribing to an addict, unprofessional conduct and manslaughter. Those charges include violations of the penal code and the state business and professions code. Murray was performing CPR on Jackson when paramedics arrived at his Holmby Hills chateau June 25. He has said through his lawyer that he didn’t administer anything to the performer that “should have” caused his death and is eagerly awaiting toxicology results to be released next week.

The article has more. It even reveals that Michael Jackson may have used up to 19 different aliases to get more prescriptions! Wow. He must have had serious issues with his health.

We’ve been reading a lot about the strange drug Propofol and its role in the Michael Jackson death. But what exactly does it do, and how dangerous is it? Newsweek interviewed Dr. David Kloth to get some helpful background about the anesthetic that Dr. Conrad Murray administered to the pop star.

“Propofol is a medication that was invented 20 to 25 years ago for anesthesia. It’s what we call a sedative hypnotic. It puts you to sleep; it makes you forget things,” says Dr. David Kloth, past president of American Society of Interventionism Pain Physicians and current president of Connecticut Pain Society. It’s used in the emergency room and during surgery for sedation. The drug is an ideal for anesthesia because it works quickly and leaves very little lingering effects when used correctly. “It comes on very quickly; it also wears off very quickly. If someone’s on a continuous drip, and you turn it off, in five or 10 minutes, they’re wide awake,” says Kloth.

Jackson, who reportedly suffered from debilitating insomnia, may have been seeking a little shut eye with the aid of this drug. What makes his death more tragic is that propofol wouldn’t have helped his exhaustion. “It does not cause stage 4 REM sleep,” Kloth says. “Michael Jackson was unfortunately either misinformed or misunderstood … He would actually wake unrested, because the brain did not enter the appropriate stage of sleep.”

So in addition to being dangerous, the drug didn’t even help Jackson’s exhaustion. Sounds like he was getting a lot of faulty medical advice while his health deteriorated. Was his untimely death inevitable?

Authorities raided Dr. Conrad Murray’s home early this morning, according to an article on Fox News. Police obtained a warrant to search the home of Michael Jackson’s doctor, apparently to collect more evidence for the growing manslaughter investigation. You may remember this isn’t the first time Dr. Murray got raided- police took over his office in Houston in a similar raid last week. Details here:

DEA agents, Los Angeles police and Las Vegas police are executing a search warrant on the Las Vegas home of Michael Jackson’s personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray, a law enforcement source tells FOXNews.com. The officials descended on Murray’s gated community early Tuesday morning.

The raid is the latest development in a month-long manslaughter investigation that increasingly places Murray at the center of the mystery surrounding Jackson’s June 25 death.

On Monday, a law enforcement official told FOXNews.com that investigators believe Murray gave Jackson a fatal dose of the powerful sedative propofol hours before his death.
