Is Joe Jackson becoming the de facto spokesperson of the Jackson family? Maybe it’s just because he won’t quit talking about himself, but it seems like most of the news we’re getting about the Jacksons is coming from daddy Joe. This time, Joe blabbed to New York Daily News that his son Michael Jackson will be laid to rest on August 29, which is the pop star’s birthday.

The King of Pop will reportedly be buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, though the exact burial spot hasn’t been revealed. Now that fans know the date of the funeral, we’re guessing swarms of them will show up at the cemetery at the end of the month to catch of the glimpses of the proceedings.

Joseph Jackson says his son Michael will be finally laid to rest on Aug. 29, on what would have been the King of Pop’s 51st birthday.

Speaking to New York’s Daily News, the Jackson patriarch said the burial would take place at Los Angeles’s Forest Lawn Cemetery at 10 that morning, some two months after Michael’s June 25 death.

Jackson, 80, said that these arrangements had only been finalized recently, says the News. He also said that his wife Katherine, from whom he lives separately, has been particularly hard hit by their son’s death and suffers crying jags.

After almost two months, the King of Pop has finally been laid to rest. Too bad for us, though, the family won’t be revealing exactly where they buried his body.

According to Marie Claire, the Jacksons will keep Michael’s final resting place a top secret to keep legions of fans from disturbing his grave site or turning it into a shrine. Fans are sure to be upset when they find this out, and we bet some of them will go trekking through Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood to try and discover the site themselves. We hope everybody is respectful of the late King of Pop and his family’s wishes!

Michael Jackson has finally been buried, but in an unmarked grave to keep crazy fans from turning his final resting place into a shrine.

Although it is thought the King of Pop’s grave lies within the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood, the exact location is being kept a closely guarded secret.

‘Other than the Jackson family and the Forest Lawn management, no one knows the exact spot,’ a source tells The Daily Mail.

‘Staff at the cemetery have been fed several locations, it’s as if they’re hoping to confuse everyone.

Jackson Memorial Ranks Third In TV Memorials

With a hefty 31.1 million viewers, Michael Jackson’s televised memorial service came in third only under Reagan’s televised burial (35 million) and that of Princess Diana (33.2 million). Of course, these figures are only for live television broadcasts. That figure doesn’t include the potential millions more that watched from their computers via streaming media.

Internet company Akamai, which handles 20 percent of the world’s Web traffic, reported on Tuesday that it ran some 2.8 million audio and video streams during the Jackson memorial webcast, making it the most widely viewed on the Internet since Obama’s inauguration.

Choking on the Bill

While the cost to the city of Los Angeles for its participation in Jackson’s funeral fell well under the original estimate of $3.8 million, many argue that the big day still cost way too much. The final cost estimate? $1.4 million. Still a bit steep of a bill for L.A. to foot. But will media exposure help cover the balance? L.A. Times has this story:

City Atty. Carmen Trutanich said this week that he was investigating how the city ended up with a $1.4-million bill. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office conceded that a city effort to solicit online donations to cover the memorial costs yielded only $17,000 before being upended by “frequent and prolonged server crashes.”

Some argued that it didn’t matter — the city would get its money back, and more, as a result of the global attention focused on Los Angeles for the better part of a week.

But the new city controller, Wendy Greuel, seemed more concerned with the $48,826 that the Emergency Management Department spent on 3,500 boxed lunches from Jensen’s Finest Foods in Wrightwood, in San Bernardino County. The lunches were intended for emergency personnel at the Jackson memorial, but Greuel thought it seemed excessive, especially after her staff called a nearby Subway and was given an estimate of $17,491 for the same number of lunches.

17,500 Chances to Attend Michael Memorial

Organizers of Michael Jackson’s Tuesday memorial service said today that they will give away 17,500 tickets and will randomly draw names from people who register for the service to determine who will attend. The event will be live-streamed on television and on the Internet, and there will be no funeral procession.

Organizers will draw 8,750 names, and those people will receive two tickets each and wristbands on Monday. People can register for the drawing at Staplescenter.com.

No tickets will be sold to the event, organizers said at a news conference this morning at Staples Center.

So don’t be too upset if you don’t win. You can still watch at home. And for those of you who are hoping to win in order to sell them off:

Ken Sunshine, a spokesman for the Jackson family, and Leiweke emphasized that they do not want anyone to try to scalp tickets.

“Those who would take advantage of this, shame on them,” (Tim) Leiweke said.
